A Taste of London!

Taste of London Food and Drink Festival

I’d had my trip to London planned for a while, initially I’d booked to see the Foo Fighters but after that was cancelled myself and Keil needed to make new plans!  I shared my full weekend here.

I was delighted to receive two VIP tickets from AEG to a Taste of London which included fast track entry and money to spend at the event!  Me and Keil decided to go on the Saturday afternoon and I’m so glad we did!  The event itself is in Regents Park and was over a number of days.  Our tickets allowed us to queue jump so we were straight into the action.

The Saturday afternoon was busy and full of amazing food and drink stalls!  At first it was a little overwhelming so we made our way to the AEG hospitality area to sit down and take a look at the map.  We were also treated to some champagne and canapés, Megan from AEG looked after us and made our day extra special!  The weather was a little bit dull and so we stayed in there a bit longer in case the rain came, which it didn’t really.  I also had a nosy around the AEG appliances which looked good and had me dreaming of redesigning my kitchen!

We then had a wander around the event, there were so many stalls it was hard to chose where to go.  Many of the companies were handing out delicious free samples.  I really enjoyed the section which was dedicated to independents.

We decided to share what we bought so we could try lots of different things.  Intrigued by the  angel inspired bottle we had a vodka and lemonade from Angel Tears Vodka, it was delicious and it was interesting to hear all about this exciting new brand!

It was great to be able to try foods from different brands and talk to people too.  We had a nice conversation with a lady from Asda about their wines and the Asti tasted good!

I then treat myself to the Laurent Perrier Rose, I could have stayed there all day but we had other plans!

At 2.30 we were booked on a cooking demo.  I was expecting to just watch a chef and maybe get a sample after but it was hands on!  Our chef was Jeremy Pang from the School of Wok Cooking School.  We went in pairs to our own cooking stations and had ingredients, a hob and sink all there.  Before we began we tried some of the chefs sticky ribs which melted off the bone.   We then listened and watched him make some dim sum and had a go ourselves.  To begin with I messed up but in the end they didn’t look too bad.  They were taken away to steam cook in the AEG oven.

Now it was time for the main course! After practicing with the AEG induction hob which is amazing for cooking we set about making our beef stir fry dish.  We could’t believe how hot the wok got and how fast the beef cooked!  Then came the best bit we could eat it!  It was so delicious!  Our dim sum was now ready to come out of the oven and these tasted good too.  It was so much fun to be able to cook together and try something new!

We still had some of our money to use (or crowns as the event calls them).  The stands don’t take money to make things easier so you buy your crowns at designated areas and then spend away.  This should speed buying up.  We had a delicious burger from Meat Liquor – I really didn’t want to share it, I will defiantly be checking out the Leeds branch now!

As we had VIP tickets we also could get a glass of champagne from the VIP lounge and a free recipe book.  If the sun had been shining it would have been nice to sit outside here and watch the world go by!

We’d been standing for a while and so headed back to the AEG hospitality area to sit down for 10 minutes.  We had some more champers and some delicious prawns! AEG really know how to spoil there VIP guests, thanks AEG!

Sadly, the afternoon session finished at 4pm to allow the organisers enough time to get ready for another session in the evening.  We grabbed a rum punch from the Macchu Pisco bar before heading home.  We could have easily stayed for longer as we had lots more stalls to look at and plenty more food to try!

It was an amazing event and I would highly recommend checking out the Taste of London when it comes back next year.  I really enjoyed it and would certainly love to go back!
